Why Beauty Matters

By Alistair Nole

These days, it's more accepted that certain signs of aging are best treated in consultation with a cosmetic surgeon, such as wrinkles or a loss of elasticity in the skin. Excessive skin or a loss of collagen in certain parts of the face may require treatment that can provide the proper course of action in order to get the results that you want. Treatment options have grown dramatically in the past ten years and their popularity continues to explode. What is it that motivates people today to have treatments done?

One factor at the heart of many people's decision to seek treatments is their self esteem. A confidence boost and less self-consciousness are what some look for. For example, one may think they have a large or conspicuous nose. If one believes it to be, the perception can create the reality and cause discomfort and anxiety, whether true or not. Some people work very hard at diet, exercise, makeup, clothes and so on, to look their best, so it can be quite important to address a problem or flaw that they can improve upon, or an area that they would like to make just a bit better. When this is linked to sexuality, the level of importance goes up a few notches.

A person's sense of improvement in quality of life or work can actually be the end result of a change. Wearing the type of clothes or bathing suits you want to wear can be included in this. Or, going to the beach is enjoyable for you, and you want to feel good about your body. Maybe you have a very public job or deal with the public a lot. These factors all contribute to the decision.

Vanity is one of the top motivators and it can be closely connected with self esteem. A desire to get back a lost positive attribute is not unusual. For example, my lips always had volume but now... , I always used to have a shapely figure but now.... Having good positive reinforcement over the years and losing that attribute can be like losing one's self-identity.

It's completely normal to want to slow down, reverse or turn back those effects of aging that start to show up, or have been creeping up for some time. Furthermore, it's equally natural to want to improve or alter a feature that you have always disliked. This can be an issue of maturity-- you thought about it a lot when you were younger and after years of reflection have realized that it definitely is something you would like improved.

Health reasons are definitely a motivator. Any mother can get depressed by the various unpleasant postpartum changes to the body. It could also be necessary to relieve physical factors or symptoms, as well as the real tangible benefit that comes with correcting post-weight loss body changes. One example is how a breast reduction can provide relief from chronic recurrent headaches, lower back pain, neck strain, shoulder notching, numbing or tingling in the hands due to nerve stretch; all problems that come with mammary hypertrophy (excessively large, dense and heavy breasts). A breast reduction procedure completely remedies almost all of these problems.

Dramatic life changes can also be a big motivator. Sometimes people feel like their divorce shows on their face, or that their work or other substantial stresses of life have aged them. For anyone looking to make those changes or small corrections, whatever the reasons, there are clear, safe and affordable options available.
