Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

With new developments happening all the time, treating facial wrinkles has become more specialized with a better understanding of cosmetic treatments. When one has wrinkles on their face, the nature of the world today looks at them like they are "older", and such a big value is placed on a youthful looking face.

How is the method of wrinkle treatments administered? Treatments in this area are offered by a wide variety of medical professionals, however, what information should you have before deciding? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

Exactly what is involved when getting wrinkle treatments?

Toxins in the air are all around us, whether it comes from the exhaust from cars, the smoke from cigarettes, or the burning rays of the sun, skin takes it's share of damage and abuse. Wrinkles are just another name for the not very appealing lines that appear on one's face, and in the case of numerous lines, the problem is just compounded.

Botulinum toxin is used to smooth out the fine lines in one's face, and these wrinkle treatments can make a big difference aesthetically. Laser treatments, simple skin creams, and chemical peels are other options that are designed to accomplish this goal. With all of these processes to be chosen from, it looks as if botox is becoming more well known all the time. There are those who use less effective products such as anti-wrinkle creams that have expensive ad campaigns backing them.

What treatments make the most difference?

Unfortunately there is no clear answer to this question. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. Dermal fillers such as botox injections are known to be effective in this, according to the information accumulated, and they seem to be favored by many.

How long do treatments last for?

Results for different treatments types vary according to which kind is administered. The limited effects of a product like a skin cream will last for a brief period, but generally it isn't all that effective even when used frequently. Botox injections are a dermal filler option that will typically last for months on end.

Price of treatment compared to effectiveness

Treatment of facial wrinkles is not cheap. The process chosen and the treatment provider are the deciding factors in cost, it can be around $300 or even up to $3000 or more, as these advanced treatments take specialized equipment, materials, and training. Creams are obviously a lot cheaper but require more regular application, meaning they need to be purchased a lot more often. Cost effectiveness can only be calculated over a period of time as each patient may require treatments at different times. Overall however, it may be that botox injections and dermal fillers are the most cost effective amongst all the treatments available for face wrinkles. CO2 lasers are touted by certain physicians as being the treatments that are most cost effective.

The healing process following treatments

No recovery time is necessary for skin creams. However, amongst the more advanced treatments of facial wrinkles, it appears that microdermabrasion probably has the least downtime. This of course does not mean that it is the greatest treatment available, or that patients prefer the treatment process any more, as it is reported to be kind of unpleasant.

Conclusion

Wrinkle treatments for facial wrinkles are many. These different treatments have pros and cons that must be weighed by the patient. The ultimate choice will depend on the patient, what they can afford, what they are prepared to undergo and the experience of the treating healthcare professional.
